My Professional Bio

Educational Background

Azuka Nzegwu holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy, Interpretation, and Culture from Binghamton University and a certificate in Feminist Theory and Women’s Studies.

Her research focuses on virtual whirlpools as new sites of knowledge on the Web. She posits that these whirlpools are reshaping the old politics of knowledge production.

Spirituality Research

She also explores how ancient spirituality can assist us in dealing with the ups and downs of our present lives. She draws on African and indigenous spirituality principles to inform her work.

To that end, she guest edited two special issues on the African-based practices of Vodou and Santeria in the Americas for the peer-reviewed publications, Journal on African Philosophy and JENdA: A Journal of Culture and African Women Studies.

She interviewed practitioners about their personal journeys, growth, and insights. The interviews add to a growing body of research that debunks assumptions and stereotypes about African spirituality.

Training in Indigenous Spirituality

Through her own self-development and practice, she fuses the principles of African and indigenous spiritualities to inform her work. She has also finished two 3 month long Munay-Ki training courses, based on the spirituality of the Q’ero people of Andes, Peru. As a result, she can give the Munay-Ki rites to support those in their healing journey.

Aspirations for Divine Banana Bread and Sacred Writing

She is now bringing out her gift to the world. As Scribner, she writes messages for Spirit, now published as Sacred Writing on Divine Banana Bread.

Azuka hopes to combine her training and spiritual insights to bring about positive change in the world.
